Fountain Hills Dark Sky Festival

Save the date! The Fountain Hills Dark Sky Festival is planned for April 21, 2018  from 3:00 PM– 10:00 PM at the Fountain Hills Community Center to promote our new designation!

Free Planned Activities

  • Nationally known speakers will include:
    • Jeffrey Hall, Director of Lowell Observatory
    • Harun Mehmedinovic and Gavin Heffernan, producers of the BBC Earth Skyglow project
    • Ken Zoll, Executive Director of the Verde Valley Archaeology Society and Museum and an expert in archaeoastronomy
    • Pierre Deviche, Professor of Environmental Physiology in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University and expert on the widespread effects of artificial light at night on wildlife.
  • Mobile Planetarium
  • Exhibits
  • Photo and Art Contests
  • Animal Display (owls, hawks, critters) and dark sky related activities for children at the River of Time Museum
  • Huge, out-of-this-world Star Party – with members of astronomy clubs from throughout the Valley bringing their telescopes to view sun spots during daylight hours and amazing stellar objects at night
  • Food and craft beers will also be available.
